Writers in the Woods – Carmen Maria Machado

March 4 - March 5

VENUE

TCES 139/141

ORGANIZER

June Sylvester Saraceno

Carmen Maria Machado is the author of the bestselling memoir In the Dream House. Her award-winning short story collection Her Body and Other Parties was chosen by the New York Times in 2018 as one of "15 remarkable books by women that are shaping the way we read and write fiction in the 21st century." Her essays, fiction, and criticism have appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, Granta, Vogue, This American Life, Harper’s Bazaar, Tin House, McSweeney's Quarterly Concern, The Believer, Guernica, Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy, Best American Nonrequired Reading, and elsewhere.

"Machado’s writing is full of repressed physical energy and the raw juice of annihilating female fury. The body is the subject, the culprit, the innocent. ... She does unimaginable things with a prom dress."

— Louise Erdrich, author of The Millions

Machado has been a finalist for the National Book Award and the winner of the Bard Fiction Prize, the Lambda Literary Awards for Lesbian Fiction and LGBTQ Nonfiction, the Brooklyn Public Library Literature Prize, the Shirley Jackson Award, and the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Prize. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is the Abrams Artist-in-Residence at the University of Pennsylvania.

SNC Tahoe's Writers in the Woods features well-known poets and writers from all over the country presenting readings and workshops. Due to the pandemic, all events are on Zoom until further notice. As a bonus, not only can our authors join us from anywhere - our audience and workshop participants can too! Please note that all times listed are Pacific.

Reading: Friday evenings, 5pm Pacific time.

Workshop: Saturday, 10am - noon Pacific time.

While Writers in the Woods is on Zoom, registration is required for both the readings and workshops. All community registration fees are suspended while the events are online.
