Pima Medical Institute’s Pandemic Response Highlighted in Recent Bestseller

Pima

Pima Medical Institute - Las Vegas issued the following announcement on October 20.

Pima Medical’s pandemic training modules were a key in the additional training provided to healthcare workers on the frontlines.

Pima Medical Institute was highlighted in the recently released best-selling book, “WorkForceRX: Agile and Inclusive Strategies for Employers, Educators and Workers in Unsettled Times,” by Van Ton-Quinlivan, CEO of Futuro Health.

Futuro Health is a nonprofit organization established in 2020 to improve the health and wealth of communities by growing the largest network of credentialed allied healthcare workers in the nation, beginning in California.

Pima Medical Institute is one of several schools with locations in California that make up the Healthcare Training Consortium (HCTC), created in early 2020 in conjunction with Futuro Health with a goal to educate 10,000 allied health workers by 2024.

Just a few months after the official launch of Futuro Health and the creation of the HCTC, the world went into quarantine with the first wave of the COVID-19 virus. That is when many of the organization’s strategic partners sprang into action, including Pima Medical.

Fred Freedman, CEO of Pima Medical, volunteered to develop much-needed training modules for those healthcare workers on the frontlines. Those training modules, spearheaded by Pima Medical’s Director of Academic Affairs, Jen Spurlin and Academic Operations Manager, Jeanette Jones, were created in just a matter of days. By utilizing their team of experts and healthcare professionals on staff, The COVID-19 Pandemic Readiness Training Series for Hospital Staff and Healthcare Professionals was born.

Another training module provided by Pima Medical Institute included one focused on Ventilator Management.

Instructional modules include Screening & Testing, Infection Control & Precautions, Ventilator Management, Stress Management & Resilience for Healthcare Professional and Patients, Immunity & Vaccines, and Transitioning from Sub-acute to Acute Setting.

Since the modules were created and made available, more than 4,000 healthcare workers have earned “digital badges” of completion and even more importantly, were able to feel more proficient when caring for COVID-19 patients.

“I’m proud that our team was able to harness their expertise and talents and put this curriculum together so quickly,” said Freedman. “In addition to assisting our community partners, our team was also hard at work transitioning thousands of our own students, faculty and staff to an online learning environment. To say they are some of the best in the business would be an understatement.”

Freedman joined Ton-Quinlivan in a panel discussion during the “WorkForceRX” digital book launch on Thursday, October 7. During the panel, Freedman discussed Pima Medical’s role in training future and current medical professionals.

Dedicated to its communities since being founded in Tucson in 1972, Pima Medical Institute has built a reputation as one of the premiere medical career colleges in the Western United States.

Pima Medical offers certificate, associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs—all in the healthcare field. It also has a robust online learning division. Programs focus on medical, dental and veterinary careers. For more information about Pima Medical and its programs, visit www.pmi.edu.
