Truckee Meadows Community College issued the following announcement on August 02.

If you’ve been dreaming of starting or changing careers and getting into one of the three fastest-growing industries in Northern Nevada, TMCC is here to help you get started! Affordable with flexible course offerings that run the gamut from online to hybrid and in-person, we’ve tailored higher education to students with working and family lives for fifty years.

While we’re not guaranteeing that your journey to a certificate or degree—or even the career of your choice—will be necessarily easy, TMCC’s close-knit campus community, rigorous and relevant curricula, and robust supports for students makes this an ideal place to begin your first step into a new life.

According to the Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation’s most recent In-Demand Occupations Report, careers in Software Development, Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing, and Secondary School teachers are the top three career fields that are in demand right now. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of developing software applications, helping others to heal or lead a classroom of young minds, this is your time to shine... and TMCC can get you through the first steps of the education and training you’ll need to succeed.

Taking the First Step

TMCC offers pathways that can lead to a degree and career in Software Development, Nursing and Education/Teacher Preparation. Below are some suggestions for how you can get your foot in the door in one of these three quickly growing fields.

If you’re interested in a career in technology. There’s more than one way to pursue a certificate or degree at TMCC if you’re interested in landing a career in Software Development.  You can earn your certification in A+, Cisco, Cybersecurity, Linux, Network + or become a certified Microsoft Office Specialist. If you’re more interested in starting down the path of an academic degree, we offer an associate of applied science degree in computer programming that can get you started. If you’re interested in moving more quickly toward a career, our newly-launched Tech Careers FastTrack Program is a self-paced program that works with whatever skills you have to make you employable within 14-18 weeks.

If you’re interested in a career as a nurse. If helping others is your passion, TMCC offers you several options for taking that first step into your career as a nurse. Our 7-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program is a wonderful place to start: in less than one academic semester, you will become a part of a rapidly growing (and high-demand!) workforce of healthcare professionals. Many students also take advantage of apprenticeship opportunities as a CNA, so they earn while they learn. The CNA is also a prerequisite for TMCC’s respected Maxine S. Jacobs Nursing Program, which offers an associate degree program (ADN) as well as  the RN to BSN program for those looking to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Please be aware that this program requires that you already hold an associate degree, and/or are a practicing nurse.

If you’re interested in a career as a teacher. Northern Nevada is in dire need of educators, so if it has been your lifelong dream to change the world one young mind at a time, now more than ever your dream is meant to become a reality. TMCC’s Education Program offers unique hands-on opportunities to work with children even in our lower-division courses, ensuring that you’ll gain experience as you continue to develop your skills. We also have unique articulation agreements with both UNR and Nevada State College, with an easy transfer to a 4-year institution where you can complete your bachelor’s degree and gain licensure... without the fuss.

Enrolling is Easy... And There’s No Time Like Now

Getting started at TMCC is easy: the application process takes mere minutes, and you can be on your way to an exciting career in one of Northern Nevada’s rapidly growing industries. So... what are you waiting for? Get your foot in the door, and start changing your life for the positive today!
