Nevada State College issued the following announcement on July 20.
Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas has ruled against the pending Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) litigation, effectively freezing first-time applicants. This ruling will still enable the Department of Homeland Security to accept new applications and renewals for DACA but is temporarily prohibited from approving any of them. Visit aclu.org to learn more about how this ruling impacts you based on your status.
Nevada State College stands in solidarity with our resilient community members who have been impacted by this deeply disappointing ruling. The success of DACA has transformed over 12,000 lives in the state of Nevada for DACA recipients, TPS holders, farmworkers, and other essential immigrants who are integral members of our communities.
We understand that this news challenges the pursuit of a higher education degree for many of the students we serve. The Office of Community, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (CEDI) is taking various measures to ensure that our campus community is equipped with tools and resources:
- DreamZONE Workshop: Presented in partnership with Arizona State University to over 55 community members around the state of Nevada. To learn more about this presentation, please contact CEDI@nsc.edu
- The hiring process of a Manager of Undocumented Programs is currently underway.
- A future UndocuAlly Certification program is being designed to train faculty, staff, and student leaders to support our DACA/Undocumented community members.
