Southwest Gas Helps Students Reach for Stars

Just as 2 million customers can depend on Southwest Gas for their natural gas needs, Western Nevada College can count on the corporation to help its students.

Southwest Gas’ continued support of WNC students includes sponsoring the Western Nevada College’s Foundation annual Reach for the Stars Gala. The fun-filled gala is set for Saturday, Aug. 13 in Joe Dini Library.

Donations from Southwest Gas and other businesses and individuals throughout Northern Nevada help students access higher education at WNC. Southwest Gas has also supported WNC’s Golf for Education fundraiser in September and is instrumental in providing workforce opportunities for Western’s graduates.

“For Southwest Gas, our partnership with Western Nevada College is extremely valuable,” said Brad Harris, Vice President/California and Northern Nevada Divisions, Southwest Gas. “We have a number of employees who have received construction management and other degrees from WNC and others who trained in their welding program. The knowledge and skills that they bring to SWG contributes greatly to our collective success. It is critical for us to attract and develop a high-quality workforce, and supporting WNC’s programs ensures that our mutual goals will continue to be achieved well into the future.”

The natural gas company’s $5,000 donation to the event and ongoing commitment to WNC students isn’t lost on WNC Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys.
“We are very appreciative of what Southwest Gas does for our students and Western overall,” Gladys said. “Without their foresight and dedication to making college available to more students, we wouldn’t be able to make as many dreams come true. We are forever grateful that Southwest Gas is a community partner that makes a difference at Western.”
Southwest Gas has provided clean and affordable natural gas for more than 90 years, focusing on customers in Nevada, Arizona and California. The natural gas company began serving Carson City residents in 1963.

The fifth annual Reach for the Stars Gala is nearly sold out. For ticket availability, call WNC Foundation Office at 775-445-3240 or by going to wnc.edu/foundation/reach-for-the-stars/.
