Breastfeeding Class (Saturdays) on June 11
A Certified Lactation Consultant will demonstrate techniques to help you succeed with breastfeeding. Topics include breastfeeding basics, positioning, latch, pumping, weaning and jaundice. Strategies for moms returning to work will also be discussed. Women are encouraged to invite a partner or friend to attend the class with them.

The local Filipino community is the focus of the next iteration of the popular “Cultures of Las Vegas” television and podcast series. “Cultures of Las Vegas: The Filipinos” debuts on Clark County Television (CCTV) Wednesday, June 1 at 2 and 6 p.m. and airs throughout the month. The Philippines celebrates its independence on June 12.

Labor positions, breathing techniques, induction of labor, vaginal delivery, c-section delivery, pain relief methods and more will be covered. Expectant mothers are encouraged to bring a support person along for the class.

Public Asked to keep July Fourth Fireworks Celebrations 'Safe & Sane'
“The use of illegal fireworks in neighborhoods over the Fourth of July has been a growing problem that we need the community’s help to solve,” said Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who has been active in working to address the issue. “As residents come and go from the Las Vegas Valley in upcoming weeks, we ask you not to buy illegal fireworks sold by vendors outside our area for use here. If you plan to use fireworks in your family celebrations, please only buy safe and sane fireworks from the local booths that are approved to operate over the holiday.”

University of Phoenix holds annual Memorial Day flag-planting event honoring fallen soldiers
University of Phoenix held its annual Memorial Day flag-planting event May 24 on its Phoenix campus in Arizona, honoring the sacrifices of those who served and died in the Armed Forces. This year, volunteers from university employees and community members planted more than 10,000 flags spelling out, “Because of the Brave.”
